GE All, and welcome to the Feb 17 2025 PCL Net.
No early checkins.

Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Chuck, and whoever
else shows up.

N5VLZ:

Much of the US goes back to Daylight Savings Time
on Sunday, March 9, at 2am local time. The time
for this, and most other nets won't change, but
if you observe the time change, the UTC time for
nets will be an hour earlier.

Much of north and central Arkansas are under a
Winter Storm Warning, with south Arkansas under
a Winter Weather Advisory. North Arkansas may
see from 3 to over 6 inches of snow, while
lesser amounts of snow, but more sleet and
freezing rain are expected in central and south
Arkansas. Temperatures will go below freezing
Tuesday, and won't be back above freezing until
maybe Saturday...so there will be little, if any
melting for awhile. Then, by late next week, we
may approach 70 degrees, which brings a tornado
threat...meteorological spring starts March 1.
The issuance of a "Grocery Store Warning" by the
local TV meteorologists has prompted a run on
bread, milk, beer, and toilet paper. I didn't
need milk or beer, and have plenty of the other
two (hi hi).

Speaking of which, central and north Arkansas
stayed north of the warm front last Saturday,
which kept the tornado threat across southern
Arkansas. Several rivers in the MidSouth and
Tennessee Valley are way above flood stage, and
tragically, many folks have lost everything.

I updated several square dance related things
today, and added some new nets to the lists...
but otherwise, I've been hibernating like a
polar bear. I hope I can keep power with the
winter storm, as I'd rather hibernate in a warm
ham cave (hi hi).

We added a few...Scott, Ray, and Charley...be
with each of you shortly.

GE Bob, how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:

GE All!

Cold and snowy - we've gotten about 10" over the
weekend. I won't complaining though - my future
brother-in-law lives on Oneida lake near Syracuse -
he got 30" yesterday!

Been playing with APRS packet on the ISS. Still
tweaking the config of the Pinpoint APRS software
to do it. Going ok so far.

Not much else to report. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, W1BSE, Todd Yakoubian, who loves cold, says
he's ready for summer. I think he's fallen ill
(hi hi). The bad part of the heavy snow is the
flooding when it melts. FB on the APRS Packet with
the ISS.

GE Glenn, you'll be after Charley.

GE Chuck, welcome to the net. How was your week?? >>>

NC8Q:

Spent 2 weeks in Florida, 60-80 degreees. Came back to
Ohio to 20 degrees and 3" of snow.

I just order fiber internet, install around March 10.
Looking forward to dumping my 10-20 MBs upload speeds.
back to net.

N5VLZ:

Chuck, talk about a culture shock with the temperatures.
GL on the fiber internet installation.

GE Scott, how was your week?? >>>

K0WAV:

Hello Daryl and the net... week was good, did a lot of
"playing" with AX.25 set ups, and probably bugged the
devil out of Charley haha but things are slow with the
cold.

We are looking at 2-4 inches of snow, and maybe more
with a sprinkling of sleet and freezing rain too.
Then sub zero temps for a bit. brrr

BTU >>>

N5VLZ:

Scott, FB on the AX.25, but we'll be wanting this
cold when it's 100 in the shade in July and August.

GE Ray, how was your week?? >>>

W6RAY:

Not bad, Daryl. Good to see you still kicking.

Just the usual things at work, mowed the grass
yesterday. Today's temp 63 and sunny/partly cloudy.

Been workning with KQ6UP using VARA HF forwarding.
Nothing much else BTU >>>

N5VLZ:

Ray, I'm glad to still be on this side of the grass :)
My lawn mowing starts back next month. I'd rather be
like a redneck, and burn the lawn, instead of having
it mowed (hi hi). FB on the VARA HF Forwarding.

GE Charley, how was your week?? >>>

NT5R:

ge everyone

GOOD week, we FINALLY got MOBRA node back on air, up
300 plus feet, hard line feed, 25 watts out and seems
to be working well

Preparing for New York or Canada weather, forecast
snow and around zero degrees f this week

so btu Daryl>>>

N5VLZ:

Charley, FB on the MOBRA node. One ham in Canada said
it was -40, and that was NOT the wind chill!!

GE Glenn, how was your week?? >>>

N3MEL:

Hello everyone sorry I was late to the party tonight,
had my ARES/RACES admin Zoom meeting, then I have to
log a hand full of PKTNET check-ins, the northern VA
ARES guys all check in on Monday night as part of their
weekly training.

Ray we should talk some time soon about your VARA HF
efforts. Not much else here; in SEPA its windy, getting
colder & and some sort of snow coming mid week ranging
between 1 & 20 inches depending on who you talk to hihi

BTU >>>

N5VLZ:

Glenn, Rick, VA7RBP, who hasn't been on in a few weeks,
is doing work with VARA HF as well. Not sure where Rick
is...hope he's OK.

That will do it for round 1...back to the top for final
comments.

Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else for
us?? >>>

NS2B:

Nothing more here - everyone stay warm - 73 >>>

N5VLZ:

73 Bob...have a good week.

Scott, anything else?? >>>

K0WAV: well not much

btu >>>

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Scott.

Ray, anything else?? >>>

W6RAY:

I looked up RIck and he is in BC. I am using a EFHW
sloping toward Socal, but am willing to try.

Nothing else. BTU >>>

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Ray.

Charley, anything else?? >>>

NT5R:

Scott, happy to have you on local helping test
coverage. Received your BBS message. Will check
re that net checkin.

Trying out new digital mode, JS8Call

Interesting, no see anything on waterfall but
stations appear mysteriously

Have an awesome week everyone, be careful with
winter weather 73>>>

N5VLZ:

Charley, thanks for being here.

Scott, did you have something else, before I
go to Glenn?? >>>

K0WAV:

Yeah, Charley you have my number, call if you are
interesting in any phone line tutoring :)

BTU>>>

N5VLZ:

Let me go ahead and pick up Glenn.

Glenn...anything else?? >>>

N3MEL:

No Daryl, I think that is it for tonight, 73 everyone
and have a great week! BTU

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Glenn.

Any other comments from anyone else before I close the net
for tonight?? >>>

NC8Q:

Trying to send a paragraph, but then things just hang.
I will better prepare next week.

I am going to try some prepared sentences.

It seems that configuring VARA via WINE in Linux is a
well kept secret.

I have no clue how to configure a serial port in
Windows.

Sharing VARA and QtSoundModem in Linux is very
complicated. I would like to view a working skeleton configuration.

New Stable AREDN firmware with lots of features
released. I am loading this on my nodes.

New AREDN Nighty Build Beta with new auto-adaptive
routing released. I am trying this on a pair of nodes.

<END> of prepared notes.

Daryl, thanks for the tip of VA7RBP. I will look him up.

N5VLZ:

Chuck, Rick, VA7RBP, might have some pointers. I logon
via telnet, as I'm too far away to connect, and I don't
have any RF gear, due to medical issues.

GL with it...have a good week.

OK, looks like that will do it. Thanks to everyone for
being here tonight. I'll post the scribe sometime
Tuesday as I have another net to prepare for tonight.
Stay safe, healthy, weather aware, and radio-active.

73 and GN DE N5VLZ
