I purchased a Tamaya Jupiter sextant a few months ago
and been trying my hand at backyard celestial navagation.
I use a bowl of molasses as an artificial horizon. It
has excellent properties for that as it is so viscous the
wind does not affect it, and it has excellent contrast
being a dark liquid.

I also have a vintage Celestron C8 that I take out for
eclipses.
