Currently, the Central American region is being directly affected by the combined and remaining effects of Tropical Wave No. 39, along with the activation of local low pressure systems. In addition, the advance and development of new waves in the central Caribbean is monitored.
The current situation of the systems influencing the climate of the region is detailed below:
⛈️ Ongoing systems and their impact by country
Tropical Wave remnants No. 39: This system crossed Colombia’s border into Panama and advances over southern Central America. His interaction with the Intertropical Convergence Zone is causing high accumulations of rain, thunderstorms and wind gusts.
New Tropical Wave in the Central Caribbean (Axis at 78°W): The National Hurricane Center (NHC) monitors this system that is moving rapidly westward to about 20 knots. The instability on the Caribbean coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras is expected to increase gradually in the coming days.
⚠️ Main Affectations by Territory
🇵🇦 Panama: A National Prevention Notice for significant rains and storms is maintained until Monday, August 31. The remnants of Wave No. 39 and the activation of the Low Pressure of Panama are generating very strong storms accompanied by constant electrical activity, critically affecting Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Veraguas and the region of Colón.
🇨🇷 Costa Rica: The moisture drag of Wave No. 39 and the flow of trade winds maintain heavy rainfall in the Pacific slope, the Central Valley and the mountainous sectors. There is a high risk of landslides because the soils already register a saturation of more than 709
🇸🇻 El Salvador: The Ministry of Environment (MARN) reports that the passage of this tropical axis, supported by systems in the middle layers of the troposphere, generates cloud cover and severe convective storms with wind gusts of greater than 40 km / h during the afternoons and evenings.
🇭🇳 🇳🇮 Honduras and Nicaragua: Experience moderate to strong isolated showers and storms, concentrated mainly in the Caribbean regions and the mountainous interior due to the direct ingress of tropical humidity.
