Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Eric, Charley, Carl, and whoever else shows up. I haven't talked with you since last year (hi hi)...but, I hope each of you had a happy holiday season. I got a surprise with the January 2026 QCWA Journal. I was 1 of 2 recipients who received the 2025 QCWA President's Award, mainly for my work with making the audio transcript for the QCWA Journal for the blind hams...a job I've been doing since Sept. 2024. Having had poor eyesight much of my life, I know what a benefit and blessing this is. This month's deal is 90 minutes long, and 35 megabytes in size. That's what I spent my New Year's Eve evening into New Years Day, doing. They were still shooting off firecrackers, etc., but they weren't right outside, as it were. I wish there was a way to ban the sale and manufacture of those items. I got a SharkRF M1KE just before Christmas, and got an Acu-Rite portable lightning detector for Christmas. I may end up using it Thursday through Friday of this week, with a threat of flooding and severe weather. A quick look at the extended progs shows possible snow here between Jan. 18 and 21. Too far out to know for sure. I got a good deal to get my leaves removed, and the limbs on the tree that could fall onto the roof removed, and to get the ivy removed. The leaves are gone, the tree trim will be next month, as will the ivy removal. Now, if I could get that deal from my late brother's estate, I could get the deal under the house done, and plan a trip to the Huntsville Hamfest and ARRL National Convention in August, 2026. I got the BlueDV program working again, so I'm now at 2 places on APRS -- N5VLZ-10 or N5VLZ-G if you want to reach me on APRS. I can use that when checking into nets, but I will use either the SharkRF OpenSpot 4 Pro or the M1KE, when I run a net. Some of the Icom rigs aren't being heard by the BlueDV program. Eleven year old Morrighan, KR4FTP, alerted me to a glitch in the net list spreadsheets and PDF files. The data was only exporting to Eastern Time, and not to the others. So, I had to delete the others, and create a PDF with a time zone converter chart. I saw a hilarious deal on "The Sex Life Of An Electron" from a Retro Computers group on Facebook. I emailed it to Bob (NY)...let me know if you'd like it. There's no vulgarity at all...just good pun electrical humor. Folks thinking that's full of sexual innuendos have their minds in the gutter. Portions of HF are far worse, from what I hear. I have a shipment from Amazon coming, but it's supposed to arrive sometime in the next 3 hours. I'm tracking it on the phone, so I may have to step away briefly from the net. I have plenty of food and drink to last me until March. With my luck, they'll stop the deliveries at 9:30pm, before they get here...and I'll have to wait until Tuesday for the stuff. There's a ton of flu and RSV going around...so I'm staying in much of the rest of January. I went to a special square dance Saturday night, and got a bunch of photos, hugs from the ladies, and then snacked on cakes and cookies. I made some honey barbecue tuna salad sandwiches when I got back home. GE Bob, how was your week?? >>> ** NS2B: GE All! First, the holidays were excellent. Got a bunch of sweaters for gifts. I love sweaters. Especially this time of year. We got plenty of snow over the last couple of weeks. Listening to NOAA WX earlier and they say our seasonal total is 47" so far. Syracuse got more! Congrats on the Presidents award! You deserve it! I received my property tax bill today. I was pleasantly surprised. It was less than last year! How can that be? Gotta be a mistake... Not much new in the radio world. Updated the firmware in my G90 but haven't yet had a chance to check it out to see what if anything it really changed. Still chasing random node lockups here. The latest effort was to replace the bpq32.dll file. So far so good. (sound of knocking wood). The thing that makes the hunt for the problem a challenge is it may only lockup once a month! Hard to be sure you've fixed anything at that rate... Carl, Charlie's in Mesa til Thursday! BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Bob, FB on the sweaters, and the snow. I just don't want an early start to tornado season. I was NOT expecting that award. GL on teting that glitch fixed. GE Eric, how are things with you?? >>> ** WG3K: GE all. We were in West Virginia for much of last week and the weekend; now trying to get everything back to normal. We had about a foot of snow in WV and the kids had fun sledding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and making snow things. I was hoping to do some relaxing, but that didn't really happen. HI HI Oh yeah, I had the flu the week of Christmas, so I was not a happy camper that week. I'm still coughing and hacking, but I think I'm getting better(?). I think my daughter was patient zero, but with the antiviral, she did just fine. Today was my first day back at work for the year, so I spent it cleaning out old records, reviewing stuff, and generally trying to rid myself of 2025. Maybe tomorrow, I'll move into accomplishing something for 2026! Thinking about a MF/LF antenna project here for 480m and 2200m. Been contemplating this for a while and now, without leaves on the trees, it seems like a good time to see what I can build. I have a KiwiSDR2 on my 80m-6m vertical and it actually does pretty well receiving 480m so I wonder what an inverted-L or similar would do to the signals I'm hearing. I'm also wondering if I can put 300-baud packet on 480m! :) Not too much else going on here. Just working on some history projects for myself and some friends. Maybe I'll get something written up to be published soon (railroad and family history stuff). BTN >>> ** N5VLZ: Eric, I had to do a brief scrollback. I used to do the copy and paste, but I have so much to talk about. Sorry to hear about the holiday flu deal...lots of it down here. GL on that new antenna. And FB on the snow trip. Well, Charley dropped out, so we'll go to Carl. How was your week?? >>> ** KX4AC: GE All and Happy New Year! We had pretty quiet holidays around here. Just took down the tree today (we had a real one this year) ... have to get it out for pickup this week. I finally got the mobile fixed in the car; the Phoenix heat killed the LCD on it, so I set it up with a quick-release plate this time so I can take it in when the weather gets too hot. Beyond that, not too much to report. Charley ... if you get back on we should try to meet for lunch or something. Back to net >>> ** N5VLZ: Carl, that reminds me of the cartoon, where the guy is taking the Christmas Tree to the trash pile. Behind him, here comes the dog, with the toilet, growling "two can play at that game!!" (hi hi). Glad you are able to get a new quick release plate for the radio. I think Charley copied that before he dropped again. That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments. Bob, again, thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>> ** NS2B: Nothing more here - everyone stay warm and stay safe - see you next week - 73 >>> ** N5VLZ: Take care Bob...stay on the warm side of the door. Eric, anything else?? >>> ** WG3K: Sorry about those weird CR/LFs in my previous transmission. Ugh! I just realized that a friend of mine is in/near Sedona, AZ, which is kinda close to where Carl might be? I've been threatening to show up down there... :) Anyway, that's all for me. 73 all! BTN >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Eric...see you next time. Carl, you get to wrap it up tonight...anything else?? >>> ** KX4AC: Well, Sedona is about 2 hours north of here. It is a really pretty place, would not mind a quick trip up there any time. Hope everyone stays safe and warm. Back to net >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Carl...have a good week. That will do it for tonight's net. I have to make a couple of phone calls before another net, so it'll be Tuesday for I post the scribe. 73, have a good week, stay weather aware, healthy, and radio-active. GN DE N5VLZ >>> ** Daryl Stout, N5VLZ, Little Rock, Arkansas Please see my QRZ bio for more information.
