During the day yesterday, August 28, 2026, the official seismological services of the region recorded a constant telluric activity in Central America, highlighting a moderate earthquake in the Panamanian Caribbean that was perceived by the population:
Panama
01:46 AM: Earthquake of magnitude 4.6 to 4.8, located in Caribbean sea waters 73 km northeast of Gaigirgordub (Guna Yala Region). It had a depth of 33 km and was perceived slightly but clearly in sectors of Panama City and Arraijﾃ｡n.
11:34 AM: Quake of magnitude 3.1 in the region bordering Costa Rica, 6 km east of Puerto Armuelles, Chiriquﾃｭ, with a depth of 23 km.
11:33 AM: Earthquake of magnitude 3.0 in the same border area, 3 km east of Puerto Armuelles, 24 km deep.
Costa Rica
01:31 PM: Earthquake of magnitude 3.4, located 11 km east of Rivas de Pﾃｩrez Zeledﾃｳn, with a surface depth of 10 km. The report of the National Seismological Network (RSN) indicated that it was felt by the population in Pﾃｩrez Zeledﾃｳn, Los Santos and areas of the Central Valley.
07:43 AM: Earthquake of magnitude 2.6, located 20.7 km northwest of Caletas de Osa, Puntarenas, at a depth of 9.5 km; reported in an automated way by the OVSICORI.
Guatemala
The INSIVUMEH reported a total of 35 instrumental earthquakes in its territory in the last 24 hours, of which none were sensitive. The main events evaluated in their newsletters were:
04:39 AM: Earthquake of magnitude 3.3 located in the Pacific Ocean (coasts of Guatemala), with a depth of 34.8 km.
04:25 AM: Magnitude 3.7 earthquake, located in the department of Escuintla, at a depth of 68.5 km.
01:30 AM: Earthquake of magnitude 3.0 on the coasts of Escuintla, with a depth of 65.9 km.
El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua
Regional monitoring agencies such as the INETER of Nicaragua and the MARN of El Salvador registered seismicity of purely instrumental low intensity (magnitudes less than 3.0) in the Central American Pacific strip, without sensitive events or structural relevance reported in the ground stations of Honduras.
None of the events that took place yesterday generated tsunami warnings, damage to infrastructure or injured people.
